The month is about over and we've finally had some winter weather. Our deer and turkeys have been hitting the stand crops that we left in the fields for them. Through checking our trail cameras, more and more of our bucks have dropped their sheds. It won't be long and we'll start to be looking for them and prepping for next years food plots, paths, and stands. It's a year round process to ensure the best hunting opportunities.

The first week of November was tough here in north Missouri. The mature bucks were on lockdown and virtually had zero movement. We were lucky to catch one mature buck cruising during daylight hours that was willing to cooperate and our client connected with a great deer. The bucks should be breaking loose one at a time some to start cruising again and checking for the next does. It will be slow hunting as a whole, but there will be movement of good bucks. Our trail cameras really showed us exactly what I've talked about above, as from Nov. 3 through right now, our movement of mature bucks on camera went from steady to almost none. We'll keep checking cameras every couple of days when we can keep from disrupting areas to see what the latest movement is.
We have one muzzleloader hunt left for this season. We are hoping for some cooperating weather. Our deer season was a great one at Mo' Magic. We got to meet new friends, see plenty of old friends, and experienced great hunting success. We didn't harvest any so called "giants" this year, but took plenty of quality mature bucks. This lead to plenty of clients experiencing "The Magic" at Mo' Magic Trophy Hunts. We called that mature bucks would be harvested around Halloween in 2018 due to the harvest moon being on the 24th. That being said the harvest moon for the 2019 season will be on Oct. 13th. This should mean that we will have lots of great archery hunting with cooperating weather. The MDC released its 2019 hunting dates this past week and in turn will mean a later gun season starting Nov 16 and running through Nov 26. New for the 2019 season, immature deer scoring less than 135" will result in an immediate $750 fine. As always we strive to take deer of at least 3.5 years of age.
This spring has been an interesting one. Our weather has been all over the place, but our crops have went into the ground pretty well on time. The corn is looking pretty good so far. Our clover plots are looking really good and we have started topping them off. I just got back from vacation out west and checked the trail cameras. The bucks are just starting to put on 3-5 inches of rack, so pictures aren't too impressive so far. Our next round of trail camera pictures in about two weeks will start showing quite a bit more. The amount of bucks were getting on camera is looking like we're going to have a really exciting fall here at Mo' Magic!!! Don't waste your time waiting on booking a hunt, as what few hunts we have will fill pretty quickly. Our calendar page shows what hunts/dates are already booked. Remember, we ONLY take 20-25 hunters each deer season. Turkey season wrapped up pretty well again this year as each of our clients got a bird. Don't forget about that opportunity for the 2018 spring season as we only do 3 groups of hunters each spring. Hope all of our friends and prospective clients are doing well and that if you're on the waters, you're ripping lips or if out on the golf course, you're ripping drives down the fairway. Check back in a couple of weeks and we will be sharing our first pictures of the year.
The Palmetto Classic show was a great experience this year. There was awesome weather, a great venue ran by great people, and an awesome crowd that came through the doors. We met and talked with a lot of great people and hope to see you this coming year on a hunt or in years to come. We have already booked a few hunters from the show and would like to thank them for choosing US!!! Also, a friendly reminder, as we talked at the show, we are small family ran and only take a limited number of hunters each season. Turkey season is just around the corner now and we look to have a successful season to knock down some thunder chickens. We will keep the pictures coming!
We pulled some camera cards over the weekend and sure had some nice ones. I'd love to find this guy's sheds here soon to total up and see what he actually scores. We had some big time storms move through Missouri last night, several tornadoes, wind, and hail, luckily we just saw the wind here. Our weather station showed our max wind gust at 38mph, while closer down towards central MO there was a reported storm moving at 105mph at one point. That was just the speed of a storm, no gusts or tornado. Crazy....so for everyone out there remember to be safe as the storm season is coming upon us.
What better for your Valentine ladies than a spring turkey hunt for 2!!! We still have openings and provide a small country atmosphere with a lake right below the lodge for a little crappie and bass fishing to boot! Our temperatures have sure been well above average lately for this time of year, we've been catching 50s and 60s for highs off and on. Hopefully we see some more pics of our deer on trail cams to show us that its time to get out and shed hunt. Our recent pics have shown quite a few deer with both sides or half racks. Any day should be the magic time to start finding some antlers on the ground.
We have been busy here on the farms at Mo' Magic of late. We have been replenishing all of our mineral sites and putting out our trail cameras to track our progress for shed hunting. We also use this time to try and inventorying bucks and identifying new ones that have wandered in and found our plentiful food sources.
It has been quite a time this past week. Our weather has pretty much stunk, as its been close to 15 degrees above average temps on both highs and lows. It's sure affected our daytime rutting activity. We've had a group of hunters in for the past 5 days and they have all seen some quality bucks. We had a few close encounters with 150-60 class bucks inside of 20 yards and they survived with that big buck intuition. One hunter even had a stud come out of timber across from him about 250 yards and come towards his calls. He said he was for sure in the 170's with kickers all over and lots of mass. So, it's just a matter of time until some studs take a dirt nap and we come to you with more pictures. One of the guys in the group shot a really wide nine point that you can see soon in our past harvests page. Stay safe in the tree and share your harvests pictures with our Facebook page.
